Habits for good eyes for children

Children from 6 years old should be allowed to use tablets. Despite bespectacled, children can still increase myopia and have to replace glasses.

Children under 12 when using technological devices especially tablets should be administered by parents. Most of children are not aware of the importance of eyes. Hence parents should take responsibilities for developing good habits on children to help them avoid refractive eye diseases such as myopia, strabismus…


Several notes for children using tablets

Only over-6-year-old children are allowed to be exposed to tablets

Children should be trained to sit upright, keeping 30 to 50 cm distance from eyes to books or tablets. If they watch television, sitting at a distance of at least 2m from television is recommended.

Tables and chairs for children should be properly designed; the height of tables and chairs suits ages of children to prevent from bending close to the book or tablet so as to avoid myopia, humpback and scoliosis.

Classroom should be bright enough. Do not use powerful lights or dim lights. It will be good if it is sunlight.

Advise them to rest or do something else after having watched TV, reading books or using tablets for more than 30 minutes.

Encourage children to participate in outdoor activities to limit using televisions and tablets.

Besides, parents should pay attention to nutrition for children. Children need additional food rich in vitamins A, B2, C, E, zinc, lutein, zeaxanti ... These substances have a positive effects in improving eyesight as they combat the dangers of oxidation.

Notes for nearsighted children

Glasses cannot prevent increase of myopia. Despite bespectacled, children can still be increasing myopia and replace glasses. Myopia stop only at the age of 25-30. Parents should take children to eye examination every 6 months or do it when children squint or get closer to TV when watching.

Adjust children’s sitting posture when they learn. This is very important to help eyes in regulation for reasonable distance.

Tables and chairs should suit children age to prevent them from bowing, thus to avoid increasing myopia or hunchback and scoliosis.

Develop proper learning programs and entertainment plans for children to help them avoid excessive work or excessive entertainment, leading to fatigue, stress, adversely affecting the regulation of eyes.

Additional nutrients such as vitamins A, B2, C, E, zinc, lutein, zeaxantin should be added in daily nutrition menu, which prevents oxidation and enhances vision.
